The 2nd edition of the book "Gasification" from Christopher Higman from Lurgi Gas Chemie, a leading European petrochemical plant contractor, and Maarten van der Burgt, lecturer at the Princeton University, is aimed to give a detailed overview on the gasification processes. It shows backgrounds to the thermodynamics of gasification processes of all used feedstocks as well as technical details and feedstock characterisitics and leads to detailed technical descriptions of the gasification processes.
The focus of this book lies in the technical description of all used gasification technologies for coals and coke, liquid and gaseous feedstocks, biomass and wastes. It describes the current state-of-the-art of gasification and leads to practical issues concerning all stepps of the gasification process from the reactor design, the burners, the clean-up and corrosion aspects. It also gives an overview on the different applications of the gasification for energy and material use and shows the range of chemical products obtainable from synthesis gas as well as synfuels and power uses. The gasification process converts any carbon-containing material into a synthesis gas composed primarily of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which can be used as a fuel to generate electricity or steam or used as a basic chemical building block for a large number of uses in the petrochemical and refining industries.
